Avenue United 0

Bridge United 2

Bridge secured a deserved league win in an edgy affair in Roslevin on Sunday morning thanks to two second half goals from Mike Mcnamara and Derek Fahy.

The visitors were the better team over the 90 minutes but had to dig deep to overcome an Avenue United side with plenty of experience and youth in their ranks.

Jon Okoro was unlucky on two occasions to see his headed efforts well saved by Barry Ryan in the Avenue goal.

Ryan had to be at his very best on 40 minutes when he saved brilliantly from Quinlans 25 yard effort which looked destined to open the scoring.

Bridge started the second half brightly but struggled to create any clear cut chances largely down to the strong organisation skills from Conor Mullen in the Avenue rear guard.

At the other end Eoin Guinan and Kevin Kelly dealt with any threat Avenue were posing on the break.

The deadlock was finally  broken when Mcnamara marked his return to the starting line-up taking the ball down the left before shooting across Ryan to give the Bridge a deserved lead.

In the immediate aftermath of that goal Barry Ryan was given his marching orders for an inexplicable kick out at Derek Fahy.

Referee Grier was in a perfect position to see the offence and gave the Ennis journey man his marching orders.

Eamon O'Reilly took up his place between the sticks and made the save of the game from Fitzgerald on 80 minutes.

Fahy wrapped up the points on 85 minutes when he was put through on goal, took the ball around O'Reilly and slotted home.

Munster Youths Round 2

Newmarket Celtic 0

Bridge United 2

Bridge got off to a bad start losing Conor Hassett to a injury just 5 minutes.

Chances were few and far between in the first half with our best effort coming from Jordan Downes from a shot just outside the box that just went passed the post.

Newmarkets best effort came from a free kick out wide that just went outside the top corner of the goal.

Fionn Mac giolla Cearra was shown a straight red card 5 mins before the break for a late challenge.

Bridge dominated the second half and got a fully deserved goal from my Jordan Downes who tucked the ball passed the Newmarket keeper after the ball fell to him 6 yards out.

Bridge continued to dominate coming close with a shot from Cian o Rourke that hit the post and Paul Corry saw his chipped effort go the wrong side of the post. Newmarket came back into the game and hit the woodwork twice and were denied by a great save from keeper Eric Purcell. Bridge defended brilliantly when under pressure and were rewarded with a second goal when Cian ward slotted home from close range with only a couple of minutes left.
