Maloney Hardware Premier Division
Ennis Town 1-2 Bridge United
Bridge A left it late to take all 3 points against a well organised Ennis Town side on Sunday morning in Lees Rd.
The first half was a poor spectacle, the constant stop start nature interrupting any chance of fluid football.
There was only two real chances of note in the opening 45mins.
A Davy Keenan shot from distance took a wicked deflection and the ball appeared to be destined to loop in to the net, a much relieved Paul Touhy saw the effort just clear his crossbar.
Meanwhile at the other end a back post header from Liam Buckley was well collected by the Ennis Town keeper on the stroke of half time.
It took an hour to break the deadlock, Leon Kelly cut through the Town defence and unleashed a low drive that was only parried, Kieran Quinlan followed up to finish well.
They say goals change games and this one certainly caused Ennis Town to kick in to gear.
Five minutes later they were back on level terms when Robbie Gormley bundled the ball over the line after his initial effort was saved.
A couple of half chances ensued before Bridge retook control with 15mins to go. The introduction of substitutes tipping the balance back in their favour.
In the 90th minute a Trevor Maxwell corner was nodded back into the 6 yard box and up popped Jonathan Downes to head a winner.
On a day when neither side deserved to lose, lady luck shone brightest on the team wearing red and black.
