Banner Flooring Clare Cup Rd 1
Bridge United B v Lifford AFC
Sunday, 11am
D. Shannon
All eyes turn to the fortunes of Bridge United B this Sunday morning as they welcome Premier outfit Lifford AFC to Shannon Rd in a first round tie of the Banner Flooring Clare Cup.
The B team love affair with the Clare Cup stretches back as far as back to back final appearances in 2010 and '11 , unlucky to go down to Avenue United A on both occasions.
Lifford will travel with the favourites tag and rightly so, having plied their trade in Clare's top tier for a number of years now, but this won't deter an improving Bridge B.
Manager Darren Brown feels his team will have to tighten up considerably from last week's display in the league shipping 5 goals to Avenue B.
There is some positive news coming from the camp that a numper of absentees from illness and injury will return for the weekend, in a game described by Brown as a free hit.
It's another chance for the squad to show their skills against Premier opposition. These games are vital milestones in the progression of youth team players, proving they can survive at this level.
Nobody expects anything other than a Lifford win, but that's how this B team like it, that's how they've always liked it. Eliminate the lapses in concentration and the individual errors will go a long way. Comfortable with the underdog tag, they'll know they are well capable of an upset here.
Action kicks off at 11am in Shannon Rd.
