Anne Romer Florist First Division
Avenue United B 5-4 Bridge United B
One for the neutral today as Bridge B and Avenue B played out an exhilarating end to end thriller. The home side just shading it on a 5-4 scoreline.
Truth be told neither team will be happy with their defending and certainly not a game for the purists, but nobody can deny it was entertaining.
Bridge hit the front on 17mins, a long range effort from Ronan Touhy was parried, and as all good strikers do, Colm Hennessy was there to follow in and finish to the net.
An Avenue equaliser came shortly later before Paul Corry restored the Bridge lead with a good finish mid way through the first half.
Bridge looked the more dangerous of the sides for the remainder of the half with Corry again going close to extending their lead before half time, this time being denied by Paul Roche in the Avenue goal.
The second half was just 2mins old when Avenue equalised, and almost immediately from the restart scored again to take the lead.
It was now Bridge's turn to equalise when Ronan Touhy turned and sent an effort over lobbing over Roche to make it three a piece.
Avenue raided again for goals four and five in a 6 minute spell from 74 to 80mins. This left the Bridge with an uphill task at hand.
Chances came and went, agonisingly Corry, Touhy, Hennessy and Deegan all going close with efforts.
Paul Corry finally got our fourth when he tapped in on the 90th minute but unfortunately it was a case of too little too late.
The game seesawed over and back and momentum changed several times over the course of the game, but it was Avenue that prevailed and took home the spoils.
