A disappointing result sees our Ladies exit the Women's Munster Junior Cup today at Shannon Road.

Defeat to the hands of a strong and well organised Springfield Ramblers was our lot on a day we struggled to find form.

The opening exchanges were understandably cagey with neither team creating anything in the way of clear cut chances.

With the aid of a gale force wind Springfield opened their account on 17mins when a neat finish from the impressive Amy Kennedy.

The second came just moments later when Kennedy turned provider and Ava Field doubled the Cork girls advantage.

This brought about a resurgence in the Bridge Ladies and their best play came from the flanks through the pace of Saoirse Young and Valerie Conneely.

A very innocuous freekick resulted in Louise Burke curling an effort in to the Bridge net on 36mins, and indeed the killer blow came when a corner kick was hammered to the net on the stroke of half time to give the visitors a healthy lead.

With the wind at their backs in the second half the Bridge Ladies came out fighting and sought to claw their way back in to the game. Thanthra O Callghan, now operating at right back was linking up well with Saoirse Young.

Much stronger play from Rosie Young, Ali Quinlan and Sammy O Sullivan gave the Bridge their best period of dominance in the second period.

But try as they may, they couldn't unlock a stubborn Springfield defence. The Cork ladies added 2 further efforts to finish the game and advance to Round 2 of the Competition.

Aoife Ryan in goal made some fantastic saves and was well marshalled by Mary Kate Moloney who's spirit typified the great effort put in by all the ladies today.

With lots of positives to be taken and lessons learned, this season still promises to be a very rewarding one for club as we concentrate on domestic honours.

All at Bridge United would like to wish Springfield Ramblers the very best for the rest of the season and thank them for a very sporting contest.
