Bridge Utd U16’s hosted Prosperous Utd from the Kildare&District Schoolboys League in the last 32 of the u16 National cup on Saturday afternoon. The Bridge lads were hoping to progress past this stage after getting to the last 32 at u12s and u13’s. Both teams started quite well but as the half progressed the home side began to gain control of the game. Great work from Isaac Deegan up front was rewarded with a corner. A brilliant corner from Marcus Joyce found Jack O’Halloran on the edge of the 6 yard box to open the scoring after 17 minutes. Another brilliant corner from Marcus found Calum Phelan this time who doubled our lead after 37 minutes with a fantastic header off the crossbar . Finn Murphy in goals made a great save from a Prosperous free kick to preserve our lead going in at the break. Looking to find a way back into the game, Prosperous began the second half with a much stronger performance. They were limited to little opportunities thanks to strong defensive work from the Bridge defence of Micheal Morey, Calum Phelan, Ben Maxwell, Marcus Joyce and Jack Phelan backed up by Matthew O’Halloran and Aidan Moloney in midfield. With Prosperous pushing on, this left counter-attacking opportunities for Darragh Hayes and Niall Moloney up front. Though the Prosperous defence did well to keep the score at 2-0. A defensively solid end to the game from the Bridge saw them book their place in the last 16 of the National Cup.
