Moloney Hardware Premier League
Newmarket Celtic A 0 Bridge United A 1
A Darragh Fitzgerald goal on 53 minutes was enough to take all three points in this top of the table clash on Sunday morning.
The visitors dominated the opening period and were unlucky on a number of occasions most notably Okoro, Griffin and Fahy.
On the stroke of half time Fahy was put through on goal only to be dragged down by Brian Monaghan. Referree Padraig Sutton who managed the game superbly awarded the penalty but Monaghan escaped with a yellow card.
Newmarket keeper Niall Quinn made a superb save down to his right from the resulting Rob Wall penalty.
Bridge picked up where they had left off and Pa McMahon set the tone on 46 minutes when his 25 yard effort just cleared the crossbar.
Bridge took a deserved lead on 53 minutes when Christy Griffen effort hit the post but Fitzgerald was on hand to head home the rebound.
The visitors who worked their socks off for the full game defended brilliantly with captain Darren Murphy outstanding on his return from injury and John Mulready having an answer for everything thrown at him.
Bridge now have their destiny in their own hands with 3 games remaining starting with Kildysert on Wednesday evening.
