In a week where league campaigns drew to a close for both Mens teams, our youngest squads were kicking off their first blitzes of the season.
Bridge United U17s 3 – Avenue United U17s 2
Monday evening saw 6 Bridge Teams in action. Our Under 9 Red Team hosted Shannon Hibs in what turned out to be a thrilling match & excellent team performance. Arron Murphy, Erik Bejenariu & Sam Murphy all hitting the back of the Hibs net. The Under 12 Girls Red Team were next to kick off in Shannon Road when they faced off against St. Pats
In the final home game of the evening, our Bridge United U17s welcomed Avenue United in the quarter final of the Cup competition. With a lot at stake both sides were up for the challenge providing supporters with an outstanding level of football throughout. Within 3 minutes, Bridge United came close with the opener after Scott Kirkland threaded a ball through to Calum Desmond Lynch only for his effort to be just centimetres past the post. Chances came to both teams throughout the first half, but none converted.
After 6 minutes in the second half, the opener however did come when Avenue were awarded a penalty to which they converted. That lead however only lasted 5 mins when an outstanding volley from Adam Murphy-Black was guided to the Avenue net by James Egan. With 15 mins to go, a long kick out from Coby McDonald was met with a wonder strike from Calum Desmond Lynch from 30 yards out to make it 2-1 to the home side. Avenue piled on the pressure and outstanding goal keeping from Coby McDonald kept the lead alive. However, very late into injury time Avenue pressed and that pressure was awarded with a strike low to the right corner.
The match went to extra time and while many players were out on their feet, the break-through came in the final minutes when a corner from Scott Kirkland was fumbled by the Avenue keeper to make it 3-2.
A frantic exchange followed but it was the home side that prevailed and the prize of a semi-final encounter with Manus Celtic now awaits. There were notable performances from Michael Carey, Evan O’Callaghan and Morgan O’Connell on the night but all in all, a great team performance
Away from Home, our Under 9 Black Team travelled to play against Coole FC. A first half hatrick and Man of the Match performance from Jack Reddan helped them come away from Gort with an impressive victory. Our U9 White made the same trip to Gort and also came away with a well-earned victory with Management keen to point out that the excellent performance from each and every player was the reason for the win. Our U12 Girls Blue team was the final away fixture on the evening when they took on Bunratty in Woulfe Park.
Newmarket Celtic U16 1 – Bridge United U16 A 2
A night that saw both of our under 12 boys teams in action against Avenue and Ennis Town respectively. A strong performance from our U12 Red team in Roslevan against a strong Avenue side resulted in first half goals by Zak Phelan and Killian Slater. The hosts levelled matters ten minutes into 2nd half before Devin Downes was fouled in the Box and awarded a Penalty with 5 minutes remaining. Aleks Gladyz scored from the spot to complete the scoring for the evening.
Our Under 16 A team made the short trip to McDonagh Park to play Newmarket Celtic. An Adam Murphy penalty was not enough to stop the home side picking up 3 points in a very tight game that could have swung either way.
Shannon Olympic 4 – Bridge United A 0
With our Under 10 Red side travelling away to play Lifford at Cassidy Park, our Mens A team played their final game of the current league campaign on Wednesday evening.
This proved to be a very difficult evening for the A Team. They found themselves 2 nil down at the break with Shannon Olympic playing very well in the final third and putting our back 4 under constant pressure. Despite a much improved second half, 2 more goals after half time sealed the win for the Shannon side and ensured the Bridge team came away empty handed.
Shannon Town B 1 – Bridge United B 2
On Thursday night, our U14 Team hosted Lifford in Sixmilebridge in a stalemate that ended 0 – 0. Our Under 11 Teams both travelled away from home to take on BunrattyCratloe & Ennis Town respectively. Our Red Team in fantastic form with a hatrick a piece for Aidan McInerney, Tiernan Murphy & Eoin Shanahan. Eli Deegan capped the night off with a peach of a strike from distance.
Our Mens B Team travelled in to Corrib Drive in Shannon in a make or break fixture for their title hopes in the Second division. A defeat would mean they handed the title to Coole FC going in to the final round of fixtures.
The Shannon side started the game very well, going 1 nil up early. The Bridge team grew in to the game though and created a few half chances throughout the first half.
The second half was extremely tense as Shannon looked to hold on to their lead and our lads going all out to turn the fixture around.
Shannon Town defended really well and held on until 87 minutes, while also being a threat on the counter. The equalizer came from a corner, Liam Buckley swung in a fantastic corner from the left hand side and Ronan Touhy, on as a second half substitute, rose above everyone else in the box to head home an excellent leveller.
Bridge United then left it late in to injury time to snatch a winner. Liam Buckley again the provider from a free kick on the right hand side of the pitch. This time it was Christy Griffin who would not be beaten in the air. Another headed goal to take all 3 points back to Bridge and ensure that promotion from the Second division was a reality for Darren Brown and his squad.
Bridge United A 1 – Shannon Hibs 2
Saturday morning saw the first blitz of the season for our youngest squads in the club when our Under 7s and Under 8s boys and girls teams travelled to Bunratty to take on BunrattyCratloe. A fantastic run out for all the sides involved with some excellent football on display.
Saturday was also an extremely busy day in Shannon Road on the Home pitch with 4 games running one after another.
First up the Under 15B side came out on the wrong side of a 5 goal thriller against Corofin Harps, losing 3 -2 on the day. The Under 15A side took to the pitch directly after this to take on Tulla United, a game that finished 0 – 0.

Penalties it was, and The Newmarket side were clinical from the spot, scoring 4 of them and progressing through to the final.
The final game of the day saw our A Team play what turned out to be the last game of their season against Shannon Hibs A in the Clare Cup.
Jordan Downes scored for the A Team on the night but 2 goals from Shannon Hibs meant that our side crashed out of the cup and in the process brought their season to an end.
Moher Celtic B 3 – Bridge United B 4
Sunday morning we saw another fantastic Bridge team in action when our Under 10 girls team in action when they travelled to Kilmihill to take on St. Pats and Connolly Celtic in the latest blitz in their season. A brilliant performance from each player in the squad on the morning.
Our Ladies Team also kicked off their mini 7s league with an impressive 28 players taking part in the first round of games. An excellent tune up tournament for when 20/21 competitive action kicks off, the mini 7s league continues again next weekend.
Lastly on Sunday, our B Team made the long trip out to Liscannor to take on Moher Celtic. Unfortunately for this team, Coole FC had wrapped up the league title earlier in the day by beating Kilkishen. In a game that saw 7 goals, Adrian Whyte, Dan Scullion, Jake Dineen & Ronan Touhy with his 3rd in 4 games meant the B Team finished their league season 1 point of top spot.
