FAI Junior Cup Round 3

Bridge United AFC - 3

Ballingarry FC - 2

A succesful weekend of cup action for the club kicked off with an impressive win for our Senior team over Ballingarry from the Desmond League in very wet conditions in Frank Healy Park on Friday evening.

Bridge got the perfect start when Kieran Quinlan was bundled over in the box with penalty awarded and Quinlan himself converting from the spot. Despite dominating large periods of the game the hosts found themselves behind entering the final third of the game with Ballingarry very clinical with chances either side of half time.

However it was the Bridge bench who would secure the victory with substitute Jordan Downes brilliantly scoring from 25 yards to level matters. Half time substitute Ethan Slater brilliantly delivered the corner for the winner with Adam Fitzpatrick closest to deflect ball into the net.

John Mulready and Darren Murphy were excellent for the Bridge on the night with Adam Fitz and Jordan Downes making a huge contribution when introduced.

Bridge play Shannon Hibs in the 4th round on Sunday woth another tough game expected.

Next Fixture: Sunday Nov 10 - Sixmilebridge: Bridge Utd v Shannon Hibs 2pm Shane Hayes

SFAI Sketchers U12 National Cup Round 3

Bridge United AFC - 3

Avenue United FC - 2

Weather conditions didn't improve for our U12 National Cup game with Avenue on Saturday morning as the rain poured down in Roslevan. In what proved to be a game of the proverbial 2 halfs Bridge got off to the perfect start when Zak Phelans corner found the net on 5 minutes. Bridge doubled their lead on 8 minutes when a lofted free kick from Devin Downes found the back of the net. Ryan Kearney Mullins made it three with the goal of the game when his shot from 20 yards was too hot to handle on 15 minutes.

Avenue playing with a strong breeze at their back for the second half reduced the deficit on 35 minutes and scored again on 45 minutes to set up a frantic and nervy final querter to the game. With chances a plenty at both ends defences eventually came out on top and Bridge held on to go through to round 4.

Jack O'Halloran and Zak Phelan were excellent for the Bridge on the day but overall it was a real team effort in difficult conditions that won the game. Next up for the U12s will be Limerick District side Pike Rovers on November 16 in Sixmilebridge.

Next Fixture: Saturday Nov 16 - Sixmilebridge: Bridge Utd v Pike Rovers
