Newmarket Celtic B - 2
Bridge United B - 1
There was very little between the two teams in this very competitive derby game in McDonagh Park on Sunday afternoon. The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead on 30 minutes when Eric Carr played John Krogh in on goal and his first time effort was well saved by Alan Reidy.
Early in the second half Reidy misjudged a Kieran Quinlan corner as it sailed over his head and into the net. Bridge could have doubled the lead on 55 minutes when Newmarket again failed to deal with a Quinlan corner with the ball falling to Jay Whyte who saw his effort cleared off the line.
Newmarket equalised on 60 minutes when Eoin Kelly scored at the back post. Gavin O'Donnell put the hosts in the lead on 65 minutes when he scored from close range.
Bridge threw everything at the hosts for the remainder of the game and created a number of chances but Newmarket defended resolutely to hold on for the win.
