Bridge United A 0 - Newmarket Celtic A 1
A brave Bridge United performace went unrewarded as Newmarket Celtic took all 3 points in the season opener played in Sixmilebridge last Friday evening. Cory McManus was the star performer in the Bridge goal in the opening half making a number of fine saves to leave the game scoreless at half time.
Gary Higgins gave the visitors the lead on 56 minutes with he scooped the ball over McManus in the Bridge goal. The second period was a much more even affair with both sides creating opportunities in the final moments.
The best opportunity for a home side equaliser arrived in injury time when Kevin Kelly crossed for Christy Carey who in turn squared the ball for Donald Devanny. However the ball was slightly behind Devanney and he could not adjust his feet on time to take advantage.
Despite the result the new management team will be happy with the performance of their young team. Next up for United are Shannon Olympic on Tuesday evening.
