Kappa Menswear Clare Cup 1/4 Final
Bridge United A - 0
Newmarket Celtic A - 3
The scoreline does not reflect a closely contested game on Sunday afternoon in Sixmilebridge that saw a more clinical Newmarket side progress to the semi final of this years cup competition.
On 7 minutes Bridge were denied from the penalty spot when Darragh Fitzgeralds penalty was expertly saved by Shane Cusack in the Newmarket goal.
Newmarket took the lead on 60 minutes when a brilliant Eoin Hayes free kick found the right top corner to open the scoring. The visitors doubled their advantage when Darren Cullinan repeated the feat with an equally impressive free kick.
The hosts were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a second penalty on 70 minutes. This time Cusack dived to his left to deny Fahy.
With Bridge throwing the kitchen sink to get back in the game David McCarthy finished the tie with a well taken 3rd on 84 minutes.
All attention now moves to the B Team who travel to Frank Healy Park on Sunday to take on Avenue United A in the semi final of the Clare Cup. The Bridge will be hoping to avenge cup final defeats in 2010 & 2011 when Avenue were victorious.
