Kappa Menswear Clare Cup Quarter Final
Hermitage FC – 1 (Davy Keenan)
Bridge United B – 1 (Gavin Downes)
Bridge won 3-0 on pens (pens from Gavin Downes, Jordan Downes & Billy Maxwell)
Bridge United B returned to the Clare Cup semi-final stages for the first time since 2011 after overcoming Hermitage FC in a hard fought but deserved win on Sunday afternoon in the Fairgreen.
The home side were the better side in the opening stages and took the lead on 20 minutes when Davy Keenan cut inside the Bridge defence to finish very well from a tight angle.
Bridge however recovered well and were unlucky not to level before the break with Jason Loughnane and Jordan Downes going close.
The visitors took control in the second half with O’Halloran and Carey coming to the fore in midfield. The equaliser came on 65 minutes when some neat play in midfield created a one v one opportunity for Gavin Downes who made the most of it to equalise.
The Bridge continued to create chances but failed to capitalise in the remaining minutes or in the extra time period.
Hermitage failed to convert their first 3 spot kicks and Bridge capitalised through Gavin Downes, Jordan Downes and Billy Maxwell.
Our A side will hope to join the B's in the semi final when they take on Newmarket Celtic in a home Quarter final next Sunday at 2pm.
