Youths Cup Final
Bridge United AFC - 1
Newmarket Celtic - 4
A brace each for Cian Foley and Callum McNamara proved to be the difference in an otherwise well contested final. Both sides fielded very teams with the majority of both sides underage again next year.
An early Foley goal put the Bridge on the back foot and when McNamara added a second on 20 minutes it was always going to be an uphill battle. That said the Bridge knuckled down and were back in the game when Jack Corry scored from a free kick from 25 yards. Jordan Downes was unfortunate to see his header just clear the crossbar on the stroke of half time.
Foley & Mcnanmara repeoated their first half feats to finish the game as a contest.

Bridge United A - 1
Avenue United A - 2
Avenue secured a late winner in injury time in a game that could really have gone either way.
The home side started well but were unsettled with the loss of captain Darragh Fitzgerald on 12 minutes following a nasty head injury. Avenue took the lead on 25 minutes when Jamie Roche scored at the back post.
With 15 minutes remaining the home side equalised when Eoghan Pewter intercepted a back pass before squaring to Jordan Downes who finished to an empty net. The Bridge created a number of chances to win the game before Ronan Kerin scored the winner on a breakaway in injury time.

Bridge United AFC - 4
Shannon Town - 1
Bridge United U14's started their 2018 campaign with a home game against Shannon Town. This had been our toughest opposition last season and would be a good test of where we are.
Shannon had the first five minutes of the match with a couple of attempts on goal.
But the Bridge soon found their feet and settled into what was a very calm, cool and controlled game. After several near misses we scored twice unanswered in the first half.
Goals from Ian Collins and Colm Hennessey.
After a brief purple patch in the second half, Shannon pulled one back. The Bridge found the net twice more with second half a Colm Hennessey and Eoin Deegan. The Bridge continuously rattled the posts for the last 10 minutes but the score remained 4 - 1 at the final whistle.
Next game Thursday evening at 6.30 v Lifford.
