SFAI Sketchers U12 National Cup
Bridge United AFC - 2
Broadford United - 0
Bridge United u-12s have qualified for the last 32 in Ireland in the national cup where they will play Thomastown from Kilkenny at home in late January.
This was achieved following a 2-0 win over Broadford from Limericks Desmond League in a very competitive match on Saturday. The first half was very evenly matched with chances for both sides. An excellent double save from the visitors keeper denied Marcus Joyce the opening goal.
Broadford pushed forward and had the Bridge defenders under pressure and a super reaction save from Eamon Breen prevented Broadford taking the lead before the half time break.
A change of tactics for the home side in the second half proved fruitful when midfielder Matthew O Halloran had a shot from the edge of the box that went straight into the corner.
The home side continued to push forward and good play on the wing by Calum Phelan released Marcus Joyce who slipped to ball under the Broadford keeper to go 2-0 up.
The Bridge were able to hold out for the last 15 minutes to set up a last 32 encounter with Thomastown.
Well done to all our 30 players on the u-12 panel who have all played there part in this competition and to their excellent management team.
