Premier League

Avenue United A - 1

Bridge United A - 0

A penalty midway through the second hald dispatched by Mark Roche was enough to secure all three points in this tight Premier clash in Roslevan on Sunday morning.

Unlike previous 1-0 defeats this season this match was full of chances with both sides guilty of failing to take their opportunities.

Gavin Cooney and Mark Roche were both brilliantly denied by Paul Touhy in the Bridge goals with Barry Ryan equally heroic at the other end denying Mike McNamara twice and Darragh Fitzgerald on a third occasion.

Brigde had a big penalty shout turned away on 30 minutes when Jamie Roche seemed to take down Trevor Maxwell in the box both referee Mark Rellis was unconvinced.

The winning goal came on 58 minutes when Mike O'Mahoney was put through on goal before knocking the ball past Paul Touhy who was adjudged to have made contact. Mark Roche made no mistake from the spot.

Bridge threw everything at the Avenue for the last quarter of the game but failed to create anything clear cut to equalise.

Bridge will argue that this was a story of one penalty turned away and one given but on the overall scheme of things Avenue will have deserved their victory on the day.

Bridge United: Paul Touhy, Steven Touhy, Terry Lenihan, Jonathan Downes, Mark Pewter, Tadgh Keogh, Darragh Fitzgerald, Eric Carr, Jay Whyte, Mikey McNamara, Trevor Maxwell
