Bridge United - 3 (Murphy 35, Fitzgerald pen 85. pen 90)
Sporting Ennistymon - 1 (McGann 20)
Smarting from an opening day demolition to the hands of Newmarket Celtic, Sporting Ennistymon arrived to Sixmilebridge in determined fashion.
Although it was the hosts who has the majority of opening play, Sporting hit the front on 20mins when Joe McGann ghosted past the home rearguard to unleash a stunning drive to roof of the Bridge net.
This seemed to spark the home side into life and went close to equalizing through efforts from Derek Fahy and Chris Griffin.
Bridge Utd thought they had equalized through Stephen Touhy but his effort was struck off for an apparent foul in the build up.
It was on the 35th minute that Sportings resilience was broken, a corner kicked was headed to the edge of the area and Darren Murphy duly dispatched an audacious first time volley to the net. An unstoppable drive from 25yards.
The second half seemed to be one way traffic with Bridge Utd going in search of a winner and Ennistymon camped in their on box. Chance after chance came and went and it looked like a share of the spoils was the order of the day. With 84mins on the clock and inswinging Quinlan corner caused mayhem in the Sporting box and Derek Fahy was hauled yo the ground, up stepped Darragh Fitzgerald who made no mistake from spot.
In injury time Derek Fahy picked the pocket of Mike Duffy and went clear through on goal, as he attempted to shoot at goal the striker was bundled to the ground. Referee Shane Hayes Duffy his marching orders and Darragh Fitzgerald again duly dispatched from the spot to leave the final score 3-1.
