Kappa Clare Cup Quarter Final
Avenue United- 1
Bridge United-2
Bridge United A qualified for the semi-final after coming from behind in the second half to defeat Avenue United in a well contested match at Roslevan on Sunday.
Avenue started strongly with Kaylon O Loughlin and former Pike Rovers man Paddy O’Malley to the fore in the opening stages. As the game settled down Bridge United started to enjoy some more possession and were awarded a penalty on 23 minutes when David Russell was adjudged to have handled in the penalty box from a Quinlan free kick. Quinlan however failed to take advantage from the spot with his effort flying wide of Ryans right post.
Avenue took the lead just shy of the hour mark when Bridge keeper Paul Touhy misjudged a back pass and the quick thinking Mark Roche picked his pocket to tap home.
Bridge United were awarded a second penalty on 65 minutes when Terry Lenihan was fouled by Davy O’Halloran and this time Darragh Fitzgerald sent Barry Ryan the wrong way.
Bridge hit the front minutes later when Alan Mulreadys free was headed back across goal by Lenihan to Lee Wall who made no mistake and crashed home the winning goal.
Avenue threw the kitchen sink at Bridge for the final 15mins but the best chance of the final minutes fell to Johnny Okoro who struck the post from a misplaced Barry Ryan clearance.
Team: Paul Tuohy, Terry Lenihan, Darren Murphy, Alan Mulready, Chris Griffin, Darragh Fitzgerald, Kieran Quinlan, Derek Fahy, Conor Deasy, Johnny Okoro, Mike McNamara
Subs: Eoghan Pewter for Quinlan, Lee Wall for McNamara, Jon Downes for Okoro
